Update on Moses, the Official Studio Cat

All of us here at the Lilypad would like to thank all of you special peeps and purr-friends who have stopped by and offered words of encouragement.

You rock!

We appreciate you very much.

I wanted to give you an update on Moses, our Official Studio Cat here. I suppose he should be called the Official Sewing Room Cat, because we don't have anything fancy enough to be called a Studio! (Grin)

Here he is, with his "I don't trust you right now" face on.

This was a few minutes after I gave him his morning dose of The Awful Medicine. The doc warned me that it tasted terrible.

But it has helped! His appetite has increased, and I think, I'm not sure, maybe I'm being too hopeful.... I think he has put back an ounce or two. It feels like he is not quite as bony at the shoulders and hips.

He still is very careful how he sits and lies down. I imagine that tumor makes it uncomfortable, but he still enjoys his sun puddles on the screen porch, and watching the birds and squirrels.
And that is what I'm aiming for -- for him to have as much time as possible to enjoy the world he loves, and have lap time when he wants it.

"Aw, mom, you're embarrassing me."

So, thank you for your kind words. We will see if he is able to get stronger, before we decide if an ultrasound exam would stress him more than help him. The vet says that even if we are able to do a surgery, it may not be worth it, for what it would put him through. So we may be looking at keeping him comfy until it is time to cross over the bridge.

All of you special folks who left us love are the best! Keep purring and sending pawsitive thoughts in this direction!

Love,

  4. I'm glad to hear that you may have found an Rx that is helping Moses' appetite. Difficult for many when we are not feeling well to eat or drink, yet we do need good nutrition just the same. I hope Moses has many good days of enjoying watching the birds, soaking up the sunshine, as well as eating anything his sweet heart desires. You are doing everything you can possibly do. Big hug.

  7. My furson Boomer died in July of 2013 (age 18) of a cancer mass in his lung. He lived several months after the diagnosis through the help of our fantastic veterinarian who administered a steroid shot (Depo-medrol) periodically. The first time, it returned Boomer to his normal self; appetite, energy, etc. It was so good to have him back, and it lasted over a month. But we were warned that each successive shot would last a shorter length of time, and the highs (good days) wouldn’t be as good. He ended up having three shots, the last one lasting less than a week or so (can’t remember exactly, but if you go back to October of 2013 on my blog, you can read my detailed write-up). Finally, Boomer got down to about 5 pounds (has once been almost 12) and had more bad days than good. He would lie huddled, and I knew he was in pain. I hated to let go, but I couldn’t let him suffer. My heart goes out to you, because I know how much you love Moses. For me, it was harder to lose Boomer than losing any person I ever loved because I had loved him like any child for 18 years. Enjoy the good times. Talk to your doctor to see if a Depo-Medrol shot would help. Blessing and hugs to you, Cathy

  9. Yes, I think this is best...to give him some quality time. As long as he is eating and doing those essential cat tasks like lazing around, he should have a peaceful time. Thinking of you both...such a stressful time

  10. Purrs for a peaceful journey...for both of you.

  13. My heart goes out to you and to Moses. Read the other post on him too... As an animal lover and owner, I could never see us living without a fur kid or two (or three) but there is always that heart/soul/gut-wrenching decision you face, as their lives are so much shorter than ours. Glad you are doing what you can for Moses; love his facial expressions! Looking forward to August and Pets on Quilts!

  14. This is one of the hardest things about loving a pet so much. Moses is blessed to live with you and vice versa Jacque. May he have much peace and comfort! My heart goes out to you.
