And how are YOU doing?

Are you like so many of us that made some resolutions for this new year? Or maybe not?

(With grateful thanks to Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes)

Did you commit to yourself that you were going to find more time to quilt? To learn a new technique? More time to blog? That you would find time to exercise and get healthy?

(Nope, that's not me. 'Twould be nice, but it's not. Though my exercise routine IS old school; no gym membership or fancy-schmancy machine here at home. Just lots of "sweatin' to the oldies"! Grin)

Hmmmmmm?

Inquiring minds want to know.

And to offer support . . . because we are ten days into the new year and you may be wavering a little bit! Me? I'm sticking to my guns so far, and keeping the exercising going. I can't say that the scale reflects my hard work yet (just two pounds down), but I know it will come!

And I am looking through my design notebook, deciding which of my original quilt designs I'd like to make and write a tutorial for!

How about you? How are YOU doing?

Love,

  2. I don't make resolutions - I just wanted 2014 to be a year a slow down - relax and smell the roses year. Now that is a reality!

  3. I have several goals for 2014, and I've already kept a few but have to put my nose to the grindstone on others. I made the minky scarf for my sister that I promised to do this month, and hemmed the napkins that have been sitting on my sewing machine for weeks, I have not done so well with the getting-healthy goal, so I have that to work on. I gained almost ten pounds last year so I can't put that one off much longer! And my Morse Code practice continues to be spotty -- my goal is to work an audio file at least once a day, and I've missed 2 days so far. That goal is going to get harder because the on-line archives have been taken off the web! Congrats to you for keeping up the exercise and working on your next tutorial! :)

  4. I didn't make resolutions, so much as goals. Resolutions seem so final, whereas goals are something to be worked towards. I made a couple of goals. 1-if I start a new quilt, to finish it before starting something new. 2- I listed 10 UFO's to work on this year, not necessarily monthly, but work on until finished. I'm trying to be a bit more organized about it, too. So, I've loosely set aside certain times and days to work on things. Afternoons for customer quilting, evenings until about 9 pm for working on my own projects, and then from 9 pm, or so, for knitting. I've joined i the Scraphappy colour challenge, so I'll work on those Friday evenings and Saturday. So far, it's working, but,as you say, we're only 10 days in.

  5. My Resolution was to make sure I did some quilting every week, so far okay. I also said I would get fitter but then came down with a virus!!!! No voice and terrible cough and cold!!!!! So do not feel up to exercising, just about getting through the day is doing me in!!!!! Will keep up with the quilting though. Happy New Year Susie x

  6. Congratulations on your minus 2 pounds and still sweatin to the oldies. I actually kept my word and purged my closet of lots of clothes. Our local women's shelter will benefit. Happy New Year and Creative Blessings...

  8. I know you must be excited about the two pounds!! I've set a goal to lose weight as well, and started immediately after Christmas. I can't tell if I've lost any yet, as my scale is hard to read sometimes, but I'm sticking to WW. It's the only plan I can stay on and not feel deprived or hungry all the time. I am going to find a couple of good workout dvds, and start an exercise regime as well.

As far as quilting goes, I've decided to say no to any commissions for several months if at all. I still have two big ones and two small ones to finish. Then I'm going to begin work on a paper pieced stained glass window quilt. I'm excited about that! I also plan to get back to my charity quilts for the local hospital's NICU. I miss that very much.

  9. I made goals, instead of resolutions this year. Smaller bites that are, I hope, more achievable for me. So far, so good. Still need to exercise a bit more, but definitely eating healthier.

  12. Oh well done on the exercise front, I find it very hard to commit to regular exercise and indoors stuff is just boring and monotonous! I am starting the 5-2 diet though with my first fast day tomorrow, I need to lose 5-7 kg (about 12lb?) for my wedding to get back to the size I was this time last year and therefore fit back into my clothes.I've not really made a resolution but I have vowed a fabric diet for 6 months and going OK so far!
