If you're like me, your head starts to hurt when you start thinking about all the names for quilt blocks. Am I right? One block can be known by three or four names, and then some seem to be cousins and look very similar to each other . . .
One such pair is here: pickle dish and wedding ring. Check these out!
In the traditional pickle dish pattern, it appears that there are triangles in each curved unit, where the wedding ring pattern has -- well, they're not exactly squares, but maybe call 'em parallelograms? (Grin)
At any rate, the pickle dish sure looks cute, but it also looks challenging!

I’m snickering about how you started your post with an actual pickle dish! I went to the link hoping for a video or such showing me how they cut all the different color fabrics for the block at the same time. So that part is confusing to me. But how right you are that it would be easier to cut all those parts with a die even cutting each fabric color and piece separately. They would all be perfectly the same size. So hard to do cutting by hand or even with a template. Quicker too. I’m looking forward to seeing what you create with your new Pickle Dish die.

I must confess I think the die certainly would make this design so much easier and faster than traditional cutting/sewing methods. I hope you get this die soon and enjoy it. I'm also visualizing making some artistic fish with it!
ReplyDeleteSince I've never seen a glass pickle dish before (looks like a banana split boat, or was it really for pickles because it was just too small for all the stuff I wanted on my split?). So the dish is great for silverware if serving a few friends. HA! How's that for a rabbit hole? Sew glad y'all have the die for cutting the fabric pickle dish how. When a friend made one, scrappy, I said it looked like a vicious circle. All those teeth, you know.
