Visitors!

Hi! Padsworth and Dragondrop here!

We thought we'd tell you about Snoodles' visit at the lake . . . she was kinda busy and so we took pictures for her! Ribbit! Rawr!

Is it?
Is it?
It IS!!!!
Yay! It's Snoodles! Run like the wind! Oh, I wish I could fly, but I can't yet!

Here we are!
Hi!
We're awfully glad to see you!!

Outa my way! I want to get a pat from Dad, too!

Did ya bring us something? Huh? Did ya?

I could swear I saw something in Mom's (Snoodles') hand . . .

I did! I did! Yum, yum! Lunch!

Our heads are moving so fast they are a blur!

There's plenty for everyone!

Ahhhh! Full tummies!

Hey! Are ya getting my best side, here?

See, it's best that Dragondrop and I were snapping photos, because now Snoodles is surrounded by duckies that want to be loved and patted . . .

And then they are ready to go back in for a swim!

Sunrise, sunset

I tried to find some music for this post. I really did. I couldn't find just the right mix of instruments and voices. The closest I came was the original version with Topol singing . . .

. . . when did she get to be a beauty? When did he grow to be so tall?  Wasn't it yesterday when they were small? . . .

Well, it was bittersweet, because we have become so attached to this little guys and gals:

But this is what they looked like yesterday, when we released them at the lake where they were born:

Some difference, ay?

The larger duck (with the arrow pointing to him) is actually their papa.He hadn't seen them since their mama disappeared and they were only a few days old . . .

They seemed to adjust pretty well to being Grown Ducks, and grazed happily on grass seeds and lake goodies.

It was a little sad to leave them behind, but we know that they are going to be very happy here! (And we'll be back to visit soon!)

Growing like weeds

It's a known fact: kids, puppies, kittens, and even ducklings grow up very quickly! It is looking like this might be the last week of duckie fun at our place . . . they are getting their feathers and soon will be ready to go to the lake.

It will be a bittersweet time for us -- we've gotten attached to them! I thought you might like to see them once more. Of course, I'll try to get some photos when we release them at the lake, but ya never know!

The photos above show how their feathers are growing in. A great deal of their backs are still covered by soft down, but their shoulders and chests are getting covered by lovely feathers.

Here's another day in the life of the ducks:

So competitive . . .
Still enjoying the pool:

Still hungry:

Still trying new things:

Still keeping the cat on his toes:

And enjoying the companionship of the dogs:

Hope you enjoyed seeing the ducks again! More quilty stuff tomorrow!

Back by popular request . . .

One way to tell girl ducklings and boy ducklings apart is to look at their feeties. The boys will be larger and more developed; the girls will be more petite. Of course, the girls are more petite all around, too, so that gives us a clue. Our ducklets happen to be "blondes" and the boys (drakelets) are darker.  (By the way, those claws that you see on the ends of their webby feet are peculiar to the type of ducks they are - Muscovy. They actually prefer to roost in trees at night!)

See?

Want to know what ducklings do on a dreary, rainy day?
First of all, they go exploring . . . what do they care if it's rainy, ay?

(Whispering) See you again soon!

I'm linking up with Katherine's Corner Thursday Favorite Things hop, and with her cohost, Two Succulent Sisters, because these little duckies are some of my favorite things!

Gratuitous duckling cuteness!

Hi again! Peep! Peep!

It's us, the ducklings! We heard that some of you liked seeing us, so we thought we'd bring you an update on our adventures . . .

Several times a day, Snoodes and her family let us out to "graze" and find tasty bugs and grass seeds:

This is a lot of fun, especially because we can run like lightning and make the humans run to keep up! We are also very brave, see?

Actually, the big doggie didn't make a move toward us!  They fixed up a bigger pool for us, and we have a ball in it, after running like mad around the yard:

But our absolute favoritest game is "How Many Ducklings Can Fit on a Mountain" and we play it on the rock inside our pen. We have had six on there before -- that's a record!

Well, we'd better close for now . . . we heard Snoodles say that she is going to post some quilt-y stuff as soon as she can. (She asked her family not to share the nasty ole virus with her, but they did it anyway. That's a bummer.) So she'll have something pretty for you to see, soon!

Love,
