Let's have a giveaway! No, two giveaways!

(This giveaway is closed now.....thank you for your interest!)

Oh, how exciting!  I do love me a good giveaway, don't you? And I think you'll LOVE this one! Actually it's two giveaways in one!

Our extra-special sponsor, fabric designer Jacquelynne Steves, is providing TWO fat quarter bundles for you lucky Lilypadquilting peeps!

This fabric line has really captured my heart. I love the colors and the fruit and veggie motifs. Jacquelynne has featured a potholder tutorial on her blog using the fabrics, so you might want to hop over there and see.

Each bundle will contain sixteen fat quarters from her "Fruitful Hands" collection --- the same yummy fabrics that I've been working with, on my secret project.  Feast your eyes on these:

Prints in stunning colors . . .

More lovelies . . .

And one bundle will have the panel included --- just take a peek here:

So, there you have it. One bundle of sixteen fat quarters and the panel, for first prize, and another bundle of sixteen fat quarters for second prize! (I bet that you are excited now!)

Hmmmmm. What tidbit of information shall I extract from you, to be entered into the drawing . . . How about if you fill in the blank in this sentence: "I've tried and tried to make Grandma's (or Mom's) Christmas______________, but I can't. I swear she hasn't told me all of the ingredients in the recipe." (Grin)  Is there one specialty that you've not been able to duplicate? The exact flavor has eluded you? Haven't you wondered if they really told you everything that went into it?
That will be your entry into the drawing!

You don't have to be a follower to enter, but we sure do love our followers, so if you are a Lilypadquilting follower, you can have a second entry!

We'll leave this giveaway open for a week -- then Mr. Random will pick a winner, and we'll announce it!

Good luck, everyone!  (Whispering) Oh, and I hope you will understand.....with the Christmas activities and such, I may not be able to respond to all of the comments, but I will read them and I love you all!

Love,

  2. Oh my gosh.....what a fabulous giveaway, am I ever glad I decided to read blogs tonight(can't sleep)

Grandma's banana pudding....but I must confess, my mother gave me the recipe by memory and she was correct, it brought back a flood of memories of my grandmother.

  3. Mince pies! It's the pastry I can never get right, my Mum's were always light and melt in the mouth, mine.... don't ask! Happy Christmas! Hugs x

  6. Bread, Gran could make wonderful bread by hand with no electric mixer or anything. I need help from the benchtop mixer and even then it's not quite the same; possibly because she's not there.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Chocolate cake...never been able to make it same as like my mum!

  11. I've tried and tried but I can't make mom's cinnamon rolls! She must have a magic way of making yeast bend to her will. ;) Maybe this year will be my lucky year!

  13. My mom and grandma were the worst cooks in the universe -- my sister and I have improved their recipes and still provide our families with dishes we can claim are traditional to our family. So the one secret my female relatives held back from us is how they could have made everything taste SO BAD, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  14. My Gram made yhe most awesome chocolate drops, very light and airy and so hard to get right. I'm still trying.

    ReplyDelete
  15. my mom never cooked growing up, and I don't remember my grandmother's cooking, BUT since I'm from DK, there ARE certain things I miss or can't make. Like danish rice pudding- not like kozy shack! it has obviousbly the rice pudding, also chopped almonds and one WHOLE almond (skin off of course) at Christmas, the person who gets the WHOLE almond, gets a "almond" present, which is usually chocolate or a game for kids. When I was little the adults would then hide the almond or give it to one of the kids so they'd get the present, or they'd trick us and say they got it in their cheek.

  16. mulled wine! I can never get mine to taste as good as Mum's did!

  17. Duplicating the stuffing my mom made is a real challenge. She saved crusts and leftover cornbread all year long, some ended up in bread pudding and some in stuffing. Recipe?! nope, just some of this and some of that. It always tasted awesome!! Mine is good, of course, but just not the same. (I've never been able to duplicate her potato salad either!)

    ReplyDelete
  18. That's an easy one and I just tried to make them.....Tamales. My Grandmother used to make the best.

    ReplyDelete
  19. My mom made the best cinnamon rolls, but she passed away before I realized I should have asked her for the recipe,, and I've never been able to duplicate her rolls. I was in my twenties and busy w/little ones, and later realized how much I missed. Great giveaway.

  21. I've tried and tried to make Grandma's Christmas Russian toffee, but I can't. I know that I have all the ingredients but I just don't have her talent at stirring it just right so it comes out perfectly.
And then there is my Great Aunt's shortbread.....!!! I can't get that one right either.

  25. I've tried and tried to make Mom's Christmas pudding, but I can't. I swear she hasn't told me the secret ingredient. Fact is, she doesn't measure...so how can I know how to make it. "about this much ---ingredient--" really doesn't help me! LOL

  27. There's a cookie she makes called Kiefel that I can't ever seem to do right. Chances are really good tthere's something about her recipe that she's changed and doesn't remember.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My Mom made a yummy cherry nut pound cake, but the thing about it is that sometimes the recipe works perfectly, sometimes it just doesn't, and the funny thing is that it happened to my Mom every once in a while....haven't figured out the problem, but it's really really good when it bakes up nice and high and not so good when it's pretty flat and doughy. Thanks for the chance to win!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Roast Potatoes, there is nothing like my Mums, I have never been able to make them as good.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Apple butter. My Grandma's was the best. It wasn't until after she died that I really missed it and tried to make some. Mine is pretty good, but not quite as good as hers.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I still can't master my mother's pie crust. Mine is always a bit too thick or a bit over worked. It's just easier to let my mother make the pies!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dark fruit cake...it just isn't the same. Thanks for this

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dried Pear rolls!(I don't know how you really call them in english. The german word is: Birnenweggen)! I love them so much but my mother-in-law just makes the best!

  34. Oh my gosh! I tried & tried to make my Mum's turkey stuffing to no avail. She doesn't have exact measurements but her's is always deeeeelisheeeus! I just can't figure out "a bit of this, a dash of that...."!!! Thank you so much for a chance at the give-away!

    ReplyDelete

  45. My Mother made this double chocolate fudge -- one layer fudge and on layer butterscotch. It was very very delicious. She gave me the recipe with her tips written on the side and as much as I tried, I could never get the recipe to work. I am assuming that just don't have the skills like she did. You have to work fast and I'm mighty slow! Ha!

Thank you for a chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  49. My Grandma made the best light bread. I have never been able to duplicate it. I can come really close but never exact. I know she gave me the correct recipe as I wrote it down while watching her so I think the missing ingredient is her love. I think knowing that she made it just made it taste better.

  73. My Mom made the best pies, and the secret was in her flaky crust! All during my kids' childhoods, we never had pie at home, but waited till we got to their grandmother 's (Sweetie's) house! One of my daughters took up the gauntlet after Sweetie passed away, but then -- she moved to Sweden, and with her went all of the dreams of delicious pies. Am I too old to learn how? Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  83. It's a bit sad but we don't have any special Christmas recipes passed down from my Grandmother and mother! Neither of them did a great deal of special baking. I've started a new tradition of making almond bread. Perhaps on day, my daughter's in law (I have 3 sons) will ask for my special recipe!

    ReplyDelete
  86. i have tried many times to make mom's fruitcake over the years, but it never turns out the same ... so rich, so moist!
i even did the brandy and rum thing that she used to do with it. but just can't replicate the taste as i remember it. i've kept copies of the recipe for more than forty years and will keep on trying. mom passed more than forty years ago; i never thought to ask her her secret for tasty fruitcake.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am pretty sure my Mama left something out of her Peanut Butter Candy Roll recipe! I have NEVER been able to make it like hers! She passed away nearly 40 years ago, before I turned 18, so I never got her recipe. Same thing for her chocolate pie and buttercream icing recipes!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. "I've tried and tried to make Mom's Christmas pavlova, but I can't. I swear she hasn't told me all of the ingredients in the recipe."

Hers always comes out crunchy with lots of meringue in it and huge. I just get it like that no matter what

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sorry abput the pies, Catskill Mama! Out of all of those flaky ones, my dh prefers Sweetie's philly cherry cheese pie (but I get no canned cherries, so it's just not right!) I can never get Grandmother's spinach casserole right, and neither can my sis, or our aunt!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Great giveaway. Thanks I have tried to make my grandmothers popovers. no success.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Honestly, I can't think of anything! I don't think my peanut butter blossoms turn out as good, though. We'll go with that!

    ReplyDelete
  98. "I've tried and tried to make GrandPa's (or Mom's) Christmas_DATELOAF CANDY_, but I can't. I do not remember my grand dad making it very well because I was only 6 when he passed. My Mom tried to make it and some years was successful. Me not so much!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Hm. Last year, I would have said fudge, but I found her recipe! My mom had been gone 15 years.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hmmm, I didn't know my grandmothers that well, and my mother did NOT cook. So, there really isn't a recipe of theirs that I can't duplicate.
Now I do have a hard time making alfredo sauce. For some reason, it is always runny.

    ReplyDelete
  101. The frosting recipe for Grandma's Christmas Cookies. I can't match that recipe! No matter how hard I try the recipe just isn't right. Not the same.. Her's wer special!!

    ReplyDelete
  102. "I've tried and tried to make late Granny W's Christmas strawberry layer cake, but I can't. I swear she didn't write down all of the steps in the recipe to make the thin layers and strawberry filling / icing. It came so naturally to her that she probably didn't consider it something I needed to know how to do. My cake slip-slides and ends up splitting down the middle.

  109. I have my grandmother's recipe book that she put together in a notebook and I one time tried to make her recipe for what she called Swiss cakes. They weren't bad but not quite like hers and even though there is nothing that she left out of the recipe she never did show her grandkids exactly how to make them. Every year I say I am going to try to make them once more but they take all day to make and Christmas is such a busy time I just never seem to get to it. Maybe I will have to make them at a different time of year.

    ReplyDelete

I was distracted yesterday taking care of my 15yo with a nasty stomach/intestine malady, so I didn't get them out to drool over until last night. This is fun fabric! Definitely going to make something for my kitchen with it. Not sure yet what that will be... Thanks again. :D
