Enter our Giveaway! We're seeing stars! (Closed now)
See, I promised you a giveaway! (Grin)
The Fat Quarter Shop is sponsoring our contest! They've published a lovely new book, called "First Blush Block of the Month" and here it is! One lucky winner will receive a copy!
This book will have you creating an array of intricate star blocks, with no trouble at all! Because we are also giving away the snazzy ruler that helps you do that!
Here's an example of what you can create:
And here is the instructional video that will inspire you to get started using this ruler!
So, enter the giveaway, and choose your fabrics! If you are our lucky winner, you'll be all set!
Of course, if you want to get started now, just pick your fabrics and order your new ruler from the wonderful folks at Fat Quarter Shop! And here is a link for the book, too!
How to enter? Leave a comment below and tell me if you star-gazed as a young 'un, or if you still star-gaze now! And if you follow here, you can leave a second comment for another entry!
We'll leave our giveaway open till the weekend, and then select a random winner. That winner will receive both the book and the ruler! Easy peasy! (And the prize package is worth more than forty-five dollars! Woot!)
I'm likely to be working, sewing, or star-gazing myself, so bear with me if I don't answer each comment!
Oh! And if you are not certain that your settings are correct, leave your email in your comment, like this: stargazer(at)stargazing(dot)com. Then I won't have to get all sad and teary-eyed, and choose someone else, because I can't email you. (Grin)
Good luck!

October Adopt a Doggie Month
We wanted to send out the news again that this is an important month!
The ASPCA and the American Humane Association have titled the month of October "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month! The goal is to get as many great dogs as possible into the loving homes that they deserve.
This is near and dear to our hearts here at the Lilypad -- our Padsworth's Project page is dedicated to encouraging sewists and quilters to make cage and kennel pads for cats and dogs in shelters. If they can get snuggly and get some good sleeps, they will be much more engaging when prospective pet-parents come to call!
It might sound obvious to anyone who has added a shelter dog or cat to their family before, or who has rescued a stray pet, but actually adopting a pet is quite fulfilling. According to the ASPCA, poll research suggests that people who adopt a dog from a shelter are far more likely to feel good about their experience than those who purchase a pet from a pet store!
Shelters and rescues in cities across the country are stepping up their efforts to promote their pooches during the month of October.
We are ecstatic to have found our new buddies at PetFinder . . . they have a list of things that everyone can do to help out -- even if you can't take a new furry furriend home this month. Click on this link to see the list of ways you can help!
The wonderful folks at Island Batiks are joining in, too. Click on this link to jump to their page and learn more about how to help, and about the fabric collections and more that some special companies will offer, with a portion of the proceeds to go to the PetFinder folks!
This link will take you to The Quilt Pattern Magazine (totally online patterns, yummy!) and you can sign up to help, or just to get updates.
Join the fun! And help a furry friend find a new home!

October is an important month!
Nope, I am not referring to the special occasion for costumery, which falls on the thirty-first of the month. But that is a fun thing to play around with, no?
But I digress . . .
October is a month that is important for a cause that we here at the Lilypad hold very dear. It's dedicated to helping rescue pets find homes!!
It's a nationwide effort, and lots of local shelters are making sure their residents are prettied up and rested up, and ready to go to a sweet forever home!
And while I know that June was the "official" adopt a kitty month, I would be leaving out some of our bestest furriends if I didn't encourage y'all to stop and look at the cats at the shelter, too!
Maybe your home has room for one of each!
There are some great organizations that are helping out with this month's focus, and in the coming days we will shine a spotlight on some of them!

Giveaway winner!
Thank you to everyone who entered our giveaway! We had a lot of fun here at the Lilypad, reading your comments about raking, mulching, and jumping in the leaves.
Mr. Random Number Generator picked AMY!!! Amy is a longtime follower, and blogs at Amy's Crafty Shenanigans.
Congratulations, Amy, and we hope you enjoy your peachy pattern package prize (I love alliterations), and blog about it, too! We love seeing what peeps create with their winnings!
Stay tuned . . . next month we will show the borders and finish of the quilt, and of course, we'll have more fun things happening before that!
Go jump in a big pile of leaves! (Grin)
After that, then your instructions are to pour a cuppa and quilt!

Block 5 - Maggie's First Dance! Giveaway closed!
Start your engines!
Well, get ready at your machines, anyway! Pedal to the metal, right? (Grin)
This month's assignment is to make FIVE blocks! Yep, that's right. Up until now, you've made one block each month -- Jacquelynne upped the ante this time -- you'll make five of these setting blocks for the Maggie's First Dance quilt!
Don't stress!
She always has great instructions! And these are simple blocks!
You make lots of sub-units like these:
And then you sew them together to make five of these!
Just feast your eyes on those corners! I'm busting-my-buttons proud of how these turned out!
And here they are, lined up and ready to assemble into the quilt!
Now, you want to check out all the other bloggers' blocks, and see all the many ways that this project can be done!
And we have a new blogger, with a lovely prize! Christa's Quilts is sponsoring the prize package for this month!
Here is the list so that you can hop over and visit them all! (And enter to win at their blogs, too!)
