Sorry it's been quiet around here.
Have you heard those crickets?
Hasn't been much sewing going on, either. (Snap.)
Here's why:
I (almost) smiled when I found that image, since that is exactly what my handy dandy thermometer said.
Almost smiled.
Too tired to actually do that. (I know, right? Can I have some cheese with my whine?)
Our fab sponsor has come to the rescue . . . . while I take some time off to get better, you peeps can enter this giveaway!!
Fat Quarter Shop is just about the most fun place ever to shop, don't you think?
They have all the newest stuff for us to drool over, flash sales that are spectacular bargains, and they come up with neat mysteries and kits, too. And when I see something on their site that I want to make, I usually see a pattern or some templates!
Introducing the Orange Peel Set, from the It's so Emma division of the Fat Quarter Shop!
Orange these the cutest things? Aw, come on, humor me, I'm ill. (Grin) No more puns, I promise!
The awesome part of this is that in the set of templates, there are four sizes -- you can use these with any of these size squares of fabric: 3 inch, 4 inch, 5 inch, or 6 inch, for a monster huge quilt. The kind that would be lovely and warm and I could nap in it . . . .
Oh, pardon me. I'll tell you about the giveaway before I drowse off.
Two of you will win a prize package of these templates, plus these four patterns to make these quilts:
Jewel -- this one starts as a lap quilt, but you could make it larger . . .
Grapevine -- this one starts out as a crib or a lap size, but these are so easy! You could make a bed quilt in no time!
Round Robin -- they've included options for crib, lap, twin, and queen on this one. Just picture this from your scraps and your stash!
And this one is Goldie -- so cute, the little fishies! This one starts as a crib or lap size.
And who says you must make quilts? I LOVE this creative idea:
Here's how you can win . . . . leave a comment here with your best cough remedy. Seriously. My head hurts, and my chest does, too. The over the counter stuff isn't working!
So tell me if you have an old family recipe that will help me out, OK? And it's not required, but if you would like to follow here at the Lilypad, you can leave a second entry: tell me how you follow.
We'll leave this giveaway open for a week, and then choose our two winners!!
(PLEASE leave your email as part of your comment....like this: name(at)gmail(dot)com. I had SO MANY no-reply comments last time! I want to choose your comment for a prize winner!!)
Good luck!!
Love,
PS If you can't stand it, the templates and the patterns are available now at the Fat Quarter Shop! You can get the patterns as printed or as pdfs!
And please understand if I don't answer all the comments this time....I will probably be sleeping.
I am so sorry that you are feeling so dreadful. It has been going around here too and it is nasty this year. My grandfather used to heat a shot of brandy up for us to drink in a hot bath. That seemed to cure everything. ;-) rkjrk5(at)aol(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing about so many people getting sick, that I'm totally paranoid about being in a large group situation. So sorry to hear you are sick. I hope you feel 100% very soon.
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say I've been dreaming about these new orange peel templates and patterns at FQS. They just look so fun and versatile to create with. Great giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity.

I don't have a "recipe" but I do have an old family remedy. Vicks Vap-O-Rub. (yes they still make it!) I put it on my chest, soles of my feet and under my nose. Mama always just rubbed it on our chests, but I think "more is better!" LOL I know that under my nose (assuming it isn't red/raw) that it helps open up my head.
ReplyDeleteI also put a bowl/kettle of steaming water and trap it with a towel. I am very "old school"

Like Gene - believer of Vicks Vap-O-Rub although I was taught by gran to use a piece of flannel to cover your chest to 'hold the heat' and heavy or wool socks with Vicks on the feet.
ReplyDeleteIfollow with GFC - take care and get better soon
ReplyDeleteNot exactly an old family recipe, I make a large cup of tea with a lot of honey and a few tablespoons of lemon juice. It seems to help my throat, when I need it. Feel better! I can't believe you're hosting a giveaway, when you're sick and have a fever, you're a real trooper!

What will FQS think of next! There is something so pleasing about orange peel quilts and who doesn't like notions. I am so sorry you feel sick. I am a triage nurse and for cough we recommend a teaspoon of honey. Medical research shows that honey is still more effective than over the counter meds for soothing a cough. In Between teaspoons of honey, try honey and menthol drops. Whenever you have a cold, the last thing to resolve is the cough. Hang in there! I follow on Bloglovin
ReplyDeleteDown here that is over 38C, and definitely a fever. Honey, lemon, hot water, make it thick and syrupy, and sip a little every half hour. Rub your chest with Vicks, smear a little up your nose, and sometimes good old fashioned jubes soothe your throat.
ReplyDeletejeanmck77 (at) gmail(dot)com
I follow you on blogger, and finished my first comment too soon to say...
ReplyDeletehope you are up and back to full capacity at the machine before too long, meantime rest well.
So sorry you are ill. I always went for the hot tea, lemon, honey and whiskey. If you don't mind the smell some Vicks is great and put a "clean" humidifier in the room. I emphasize clean because a dirty one will make you sicker.
ReplyDeleteI follow on BL, forgot the chicken noodle soup so you don't dehydrate.
ReplyDeleteWe use hot tea with lemon and honey

ReplyDeleteOnion tea! Boil 1 onion in 2 to 3 cups of water for 15 min, let it cool and add some honey when the tea has drinking temp. It tastes rather nasty but it does help! 😉
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, Barbara
Sorry you are not feeling well. I don't have a good cough remedy but I do for a stuffed up nose. I nurse in my college clinic told me years ago to take a hot shower and blow your nose. It's amazing how you can clear out the junk and get relief for a spell. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI was raised using Whiskey, honey and lemon. We also use Hot tea with a little whiskey or rum, or whatever your favorite is.
ReplyDeleteWe get your blog feeds in Feedly.
ReplyDeleteI drink herbal tea with honey and lemon and take extra vitamin C. For the headache, I take over the counter tablets. Then I sweat it out in bed in my flannel jammies, under a pile of quilts. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI follow with bloglovin. Thanks for a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteif I'm coughing I'm most likely on the hard stuff from the dr. due to bronchitis. It's been a rough winter. Strangely this year I seem to be dealing with a lot of allergies! Feel better!

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're sick and hope you feel better soon. Over Christmas my sisters and I were talking about a mustard plaster that my mother would use on us. She would mix dry mustard with something--none of us could remember what-we would be wearing a tee shirt and she would smear it on the tee shirt over our chest---it burned! I can't remember if it helped though. Now my husband and I have a hot toddie--hot water, lemon, honey and a good shot of whiskey and off to bed!

I have many different choices for cough relief remedies. I prefer the old fashioned shot of whiskey, honey and lemon right before bedtime. Sip hot non-caffeinated teas with lemon and honey all day continue to hydrate my system (it actually helps get all the junk out). And keeping my self bundled in layers. Thick fuzzy socks and comfortable pjs, with a big fuzzy bath robe. Those should do the trick. But another remedy I like is the elderberry (you can buy it over the counter and in a syrup form at most local pharmacies). Many wishes for you to get better! anitalynette(dot)simmons(at)yahoo(dot)com

ReplyDeleteSorry you've been sick. Wish I lived closer, I'd bring you some soup! Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteBeing sick is NO fun! My best remedy for a cough is hot tea and some sugar-free cough lozenges. If nothing else, it will help you warm up. If you don't like tea, how about some hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Feel better soon!

Sorry about your cough, there's nothing worse! Sipping Amaretto usually soothes my cough better than cough syrup (and tastes better, too!). When I have a severe cough that keeps me from sleeping, I fix one of my dad's 'hot toddies' : whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and a little hot water before bed. Calms the cough and helps you sleep!

Homemade chicken broth is scientifically proven to help fight colds and flu. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI follow you on feedly. Thanks for rallying enough for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteYou can try the Vicksburg on your chest and putting it on your feet and covering your feet with socks (it really does help), Drinking hot tea (black and green tea has high antioxidants which are immune boosters) with honey and lemon (my preferred) or a Hot Toddy which is 1 very hot cup water 1 tea bag of a good dark Tea or if you like green tea you can use that too, 2 ounces whiskey, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon lemon juice (the stuff in the plastic lemon is fine or use a fresh lemon and just use a slice. (This is my husbands preferred method, i hate whiskey, so I stick with my honey and lemon).I put the Vicks tabs in the shower and love them. I can BREATH again. Use a room humidifier, try a sinus rinse or use a neti pot (if you have never used one before it can be intimidating and off putting just the thought of it by reading the instructions but once you have tried it and felt the benefits of it and realizedid those fears were for not you will be so thankful you did it). I also make sure to eat plenty of bananas and other foods high in potassium as fever (and if you have not been able to keep food down at any time) both of those things deplete potassium, so it's important to replenish your potassium. (I am a nurse by the way) If your not eating much, have some V8, its rich in antioxidants and those boost your immune system. Its important to keep yourself well hydrated and this will also help there as well, but keeping yourself nourished with foods that have antioxidants, vitamin c, b12, Omega 3 etc etc will help your body fight back and get you feeling better much faster. You can look up which foods are best to eat when suffering from colds or flu if you need that guidance. Try doing saltwater gargle too, it will keep your throat monster and clear it out a bit. Do it 3 or 4 times a day.
ReplyDeleteTHE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS: Rest, stay hydrated, keep your nasal passages moist with drops, and use humidifiers. Feel better soon! We were sick for weeks. I literally can feel your pain. Hugs and prayers for you.
I receive your emails and follow on facebook. I forgot to add my email above its kwarren29@cox.net

If you boil rosemary, or rosemary essential oil would be better, in a pot and put a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Elderberry syrup is also great. The best essential oils for opening up the air passages are peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary. You could also do an onion poultice on your chest, you can google a recipe for it. However, since you wrote this post two days ago, I hope you are feeling a lot better! missysaprons@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteWe've had some kind of crud going on at our house for 2 weeks. Bleh! The one thing that has helped the most is a pot of boiling water on the stove with Thyme in it. I also made a tea of a cut up lemon and 1tsp of thyme....bring it to a boil with 1 cup of water and then turn it off and let it sit for 5 minutes. It's been pretty amazing at working through a tough cough here.
ReplyDeleteVicks under my nose, water and rest. HANG IN THERE!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you are under the weather. The only thing that makes me feel better is a big mug of hot lemonade with raw honey and snuggling with my heating pad--lol!
