I found some more lovely vintage things that I wanted to share with you . . .
I think these are what my grandma used to call "dresser scarves" but if I'm wrong, please feel free to chime in and correct me!
Like the items I showed before, these were all made by my hubby's grandma, so they are precious family heirlooms. I love the ingenuity of the designs, and how they made every bit of that feedsack count!
All of those perfect little French knots . . .
And making the flowers two-toned! So cute!
This one is in different colors -- I imagine she had different bedrooms in mind when she made these.
Love the vines on this one.
The flower petals are wavy, instead of straight -- I like the movement that it gives the embroidery.
And the piece de resistance (see, I'm cultured and can speak French): the hand crocheted trim! Beautiful!
Thanks for wandering down memory lane with me today!
Love,
They are all so beautiful, whenever I see things like that in thrift stores it makes me a little sad, people don't realize the treasures they have, I'm so glad you have them.
ReplyDeleteSweet linens. What an absolute treasure. Thanks for sharing.

Yep...thems are dresser scarves. My grandmother made tons of them. Literally...I'm not kidding...tons. They sat in my mother's cedar chest for decades, and now they've been sitting in mine for decades. Lately I've taken to using them in my quilts. They need a new job, and they need to come out into the light of day.
ReplyDeletevery beautiful and extra special because they were made by a family member
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pieces, Jacque. I just love that first one. It's my favourite.
ReplyDeleteI have heard "dresser scarves" many, many times in my life. My Grandmother made many in her day as well. The stitching was always perfect and beautiful...just as you are showing here. I like that Barbara is giving them a new job.
