Quilters Christmas Party - better late than never!
I hope I am not too late for the party -- if I am, hopefully you will enjoy the post anyway! I expect that if you head over to SewCalGal's party that you can still help with Operation Homefront, and I know that they will appreciate it!
This year will be a very different Christmas than any we've ever experienced . . . it will be the first one where we "ole folks" are the only ones hanging up our stockings!
Some of my fondest Christmas memories involve a fire crackling in the fireplace, hot cocoa in big mugs, and all the kids nestled around us to hear the Christmas story read from the gospel of Luke.
Good times!
Yep, we will now officially join the ranks of empty-nesters, and it will be a bittersweet time, I'm sure. We parents are always so proud of our kiddos as they accomplish things and move forward in their lives, but it may take some getting used to, for the last one to have spread her wings and flown away!
I'll be hanging up stockings like these -- I love to piece fabric together and then use my "made fabric" for a project.
Made some more of these pot holders, too!
And this is my pride and joy -- my own design, called the Roanoke Star.
If you would like to make one, just click on the link to hop over to the tutorial!
Please join me in helping Operation Homefront in their efforts to support the families of our servicemen and women -- and here's hoping that you all have a blessed Christmas!
Love,

Just wanted to let you know that I made my donation to Operation Homefront. It's a great cause.
ReplyDeleteThe first Christmas as an empty nester is the worst but then again we spent all those years preparing them to leave and start their own journey thru life. To keep from missing them to much I always try and remember that sooner or later there will be a new generation comming to GeeMa's for Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
I love your stocking! You might be late, but at least you came! LOL
ReplyDeleteEmpty nest but big hearts :) Love your stocking!
ReplyDeleteI love you Roanoke Star piece.
ReplyDeleteYou always make such cool stuff!
ReplyDeleteI've been blessed to always have my children here for Christmas and I still hang stockings for them and fill them too!! I can't seem to stop that and they look forward to seeing the little goodies in their stockings as much or more than their main gift.
Merry Christmas!!
God bless our military folks!! Where would we be without them???!!!!!
They are all so pretty especially your star. We've been empty nesters for a while now and every Christmas I tell my daughter if she can't make it home we'll understand, but so far she's made it. I don't look forward to that first one. I hope you have a wonderful day and maybe start some new traditions just the two of you.
ReplyDeleteOperation Homefront is a great program. It is a shame that our service men and women do not get paid enough to make ends meet. My son has been in for 20 years and tries so hard to make ends meet with 5 boys, three of which are adults but have failed to launch! I feel guilty not donating, but I help my kids as much as a fixed empty nester can.
ReplyDeleteLove and Wings.... that's what Grandma (Mr. B's mom) used to tell us before she passed away.... we give them Love and Wings....
ReplyDeletedoesn't make it any easier!
Love you,
Thing I
We only hang up one stocking, so I kind of get it. The first year I was married was the first year I had no stocking. My mom decided if I was old enough to be married I was old enough to give up my Christmas morning goodies.
ReplyDeleteI do love your stocking!
I love your Christmas decorations!
